Most web apps are designed at desktop width and squeezed down afterwards. We build the narrow layout at the same time, because that is where a good share of your users will open it first.
Server rendering, image handling and bundle size get decided during the build. Retrofitting speed into a finished app is a separate project, and a more expensive one.
TypeScript throughout and small, reusable pieces, so changing something later is cheap. If you hand it to another developer, they can read it.
